Indeni 6.x, 7.0 and earlier versions run on Ubuntu 14.04, but starting from the next minor version (Indeni 7.1), Ubuntu 18.04 will be required.
Indeni 7.0 supports both Ubuntu 14.04 and 18.04
The following migration guide will guide you through the migration from the source machine (running Ubuntu 14.04) to the target machine (running 18.04). Once migration is complete, the source machine running Ubuntu 14.04 should be deactivated (strongly recommended) in order to prevent both machines from running in parallel.
The following procedure will migrate Indeni to the new Operating System (Ubuntu 18.04) located on a different VM (virtual machine) or physical server. At the end of this process, all existing configurations and saved data is copied to the new instance.
Important: This migration process is valid only for migrating an Ubuntu 14.04 machine running Indeni 6.x to a separate Ubuntu 18.04 machine running indeni 7.0. This process cannot be used to migrate any other versions or operating systems.
Before getting started with the migration, prepare a separate VM or physical server pre-installed with the appropriate OVA image file running Indeni 7.0 on an Ubuntu 18.04 Operating System.
The target machine must share the exact HW specifications of the source machine.
To get started with migration, SSH to your current (or “source”) Indeni server, and wait for the password prompt.
ssh indeni@ <source machine’s IP>
Enter the source machine’s password when prompted. The default password is “indeni4it”, unless it has been changed.
You will then see a summary of the installed Indeni packages, and the following prompt:
Type “imanage” to see a list of 11 options. Select the final option, “Migrate ubuntu 14.04 to ubuntu 18.04 server”, by entering “M”.
M) Migrate ubuntu 14.04 to ubuntu 18.04 server M
Enter “y” at the yes/no prompt:
Continue with the migration? y,n y
You will now be prompted to enter the destination (or “target”) IP address:
Please enter the remote machine's IP address (IPv4):
Enter <target IP> (and password when prompted).
Migration process started Please wait...
The system goes through a series of tasks (mainly backups and restores), and keeps you informed.
Wait until you see the following confirmation of successful migration:
Remote machine ready. You may deactivate the original machine now.
Important: Indeni services on the original machine will keep running until disabled, so be sure to remember to deactivate the original machine after the migration process is complete.
Important: Both source and target machines’ networking interfaces will be configuted to the same IP address. To avoid this, deactivate the source machine or change the IP assignmnet of one of the machines.
This may be done through the Ubuntu command prompt.
